I have been playing with various
instrument cluster arrangement and after market gauges. Here
is what I have in my 85 Westy:
The little guy sitting on my
instrument cluster cover is my hero - he goes with me every
where.
I have used Brian's (Small Car) stick on face
plates and recalibrated the tach for the 7000 rpm range. The
after market gauge arrangement is my poor mans instrument
cluster - but it works very nicely.
This is a better picture of the
Vanagon instrument cluster. The idiot light replacement face
is from our list members - The Bakkes. Dave and Natasha do a
very nice job on these.
NOTE: If anyone is interested in purchasing a check engine indictor panel
you can find their ads on the Samba under the user name “Westyklaus.”
Note that my Check Engine light is using the old O2 LED
- but the insert now shows this a CE light - may be
handy arrangement for the California CARB guys.
This is my after market gauge
pod.
Stewart Warner temperature gauge, Auto Meter oil pressure
gauge and a VDO voltmeter. I have switches mounted on both
the temperature gauge pod and the volt meter pod. The
switches allow switch between - coolant temperature and
automatic tranny temperature (2 senders) - and for voltage I
can switch between main battery and auxiliary battery.

guarantee implied or included. Tom
